Learn More About Carpenter Ants

Two Easy Ways To Identify A Carpenter Ant Infestation

  1. Carpenter Ants make burrows in damp wood, but can move further to damage solid wood. If you see ants around around damp firewood, and decaying or damaged wood siding or wood porches, you may have carpenter ants.
  2. Unlike termites, carpenter ants do not eat wood. They do however leave behind a very fine sawdust as they burrow into wood to create their nests. Fresh sawdust is an indicator you may have carpenter ants.

Pests Commonly Confused with Carpenter Ants
Aside from regular ants, termites are the pest most frequently confused with carpenter ants. Although similar in size, termites have a straight waist, whereas carpenter ants have a pinched waist.

What Do Carpenter Ants Look Like?
  • Carpenter ants are larger than most other ants, ranging in size from ⅜ of an inch to a full inch long.
  • There are over 18 varieties of carpenter ants, so identifying can be difficult. But the most common winged carpenter ants have reddish brown thoraxes and heads, black abdomens and black bodies.

How Do You Get Carpenter Ants?
Carpenter ants build their nests, seeking shelter, in damp or rotting wood but they can burrow deeper into solid wood. Infestations usually occur as a result of a nest developing close to home, perhaps from damp firewood or part of a rotting porch, and then spreading into the home.

If you suspect you have carpenter ants you should have your home inspected as soon as possible to prevent the ants from causing any structural damage.

Hazards Of Not Treating Carpenter Ants

Reasons To Treat Your Carpenter Ant Problem Immediately
Carpenter ants don’t eat wood, but they do burrow into soft and weak wood to build their nests. And although the damage they cause is less significant than that of termites, they should not be left untreated. As the carpenter ant colony increases they spread further into the wood, causing increasingly severe damage.

What To Expect From Our Treatment

We inject liquid termiticide deep into the soil around the foundation of your home, the area termites will have their colonies and tunnels leading into your home. This method of treatment is so effective it typically will destroy the colony and eliminate your termite problem in just one treatment.

To ensure you don’t have future termite problems we also install termite monitors. This monitoring system provides an effective termite early detection system for termites, but will not prevent termites from entering the structure.

Should activity be detected in the termite monitors or in the structure itself we respond immediately to protect your home. A new injection of liquid termiticide or baits will be added to ensure that any new termites are wiped out before they become a problem.

Do I need the All Inclusive Home Protection Plan? Can’t you just get rid of the termites?
We used to offer just a single one time treatment for pests but we no longer do. In our 20+ years of experience we have learned that a one time treatment is a disservice to our customers as the root of the problem isn’t being addressed. While we can eliminate your current termite problem, without a protective barrier in place your home is vulnerable to future invasions from termites and other pests.

To use an analogy, think of your home as being a medieval castle under invasion. We could expel the invaders from inside the castle, but with the walls breached nothing is going to stop those invaders from storming back in once we leave.

For the past 36+ years we’ve helped protect over 30,000 homes. We are the Greater Sacramento Area’s preferred Exterminator and Pest Control Company.

What To Expect From Our Treatment

Bed bugs are extremely adept at disappearing into any nook or cranny in your home. If not treated thoroughly the bed bugs can come back with a vengeance. Bell Pest Control has a comprehensive and systematic strategy for eradicating your bed bugs.

Homeowner Preparation: First we provide you with a prep list of things to do before Bell Pest Control arrives. This includes pulling furniture away from the walls, standing up the mattresses, and packing all clothing into sealed bags. This preparation is important as it allows Bell Pest Control to most effectively treat for bed bugs, which like to hide in any nook or cranny they can.

First Treatment: When Bell Pest Control arrives we will ask you and your family to leave, along with any pets, for 4 hours. The treatment we use is not harmful once it has been applied, but during the application of the treatment for extra safety precaution we ask that you leave the building.

Second Treatment: Bell Pest Control will return 7 – 10 days after the first treatment and retreat. Again, we will ask you to leave the premise for 4 hours while we treat. This second treatment will control your bed bugs for good, and you and your family can return knowing your home is now safe from bed bugs.

Our Guarantee

guarantee

Bell Pest Control guarantees it’s bed bug treatment for 30 days. After the second treatment your bed bug problem will be eradicated, but if for whatever reason it hasn’t been we will return and retreat at no extra charge.

Why just 30 days?
When you call Bell Pest Control to control your bed bugs we guarantee we will be successful with our treatment plan. Unfortunately what we can’t guarantee is that the place you picked up the bed bugs has been treated. As a result, it’s possible that after Bell Pest Control has treated your home and eradicated your bed bugs, a new infestation occurs when the bed bugs hitch a ride home again from work, school, or someplace else.

The following scenario happened to one of our customers. We came out and treated their home for bed bugs, but 3 months later the bed bugs were back. Eventually the customer realized what was happening – the bed bug problem was occurring after their child returned from college. The dorms had bed bugs and the child was unknowingly carrying them back into the parents home during break.

Your home is your largest investment.

Bed Bug Dog
guarantee You may have heard of bed bug dogs, or even seen them on the news. These clever dogs have been trained to sniff out an infestation with up to 95% accuracy. Compare that to human accuracy of 37% and you can see why these dogs are so popular.

Often times home owners will think they have bed bugs but are unable to find many of the common bed bugs signs. During the early stages of a bed bug infestation these pests are so tiny and in such small numbers its quite difficult for humans to detect.

Rather than treat your home under the assumption you have bed bugs, we offer the security and peace of mind that comes when our bed bug dog gives a clear signal you do or do not have bed bugs.

What To Expect From Our Treatment

Target The Source: First we identify and target the source of your pest problem with our custom treatment.

Inside Treatment: Material application by licensed technician in areas deemed necessary. We deploy a variety of techniques depending on what works best for your situation, including residual powder, gel, and bait.

Outside Treatment: We create a protective barrier around your home using a residual base around the foundation. We then treat windows and doors, as well as under siding, to keep the pests out. We will also place a residual bait in your flower and mulch beds so that materials is taken back to any potential nests, destroying them.
